Rev. James C. O’Connor assumed the duties of pastor of St. Pius X Parish, Getzville, on July 1, 2009. Bishop Edward Kmiec has made the appointment for a term of six years. The previous pastor, Msgr. George B Yiengst, retired in March. Over the past 38 years, Father O’Connor has served at parishes throughout the Diocese of Buffalo. He was assistant pastor at St. Columba and Holy Spirit parishes in Buffalo and Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Orchard Park. His first pastorate was in 1985 at Ss. Columba-Brigid, Buffalo. He later was pastor at St. Joseph, Fredonia, Ss. Peter and Paul, Williamsville, and most recently, Immaculate Conception, Ransomville.
Father Jim is active in the Buffalo Cursillo Movement and is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He is a member of the Jesus Caritas Fraternity for Priests and has served on the Priests’ Council of the Diocese of Buffalo. Additionally, he has been serving since 1999 as a chaplain for Teams of Our Lady. “Teams” is an international movement started in France in 1947. A team is a group of five to seven couples who, together with a Catholic priest chaplain, meet once a month. The Team couples join together to find support in their efforts to live out their sacramental covenant in order to grow in faith and love for God and each other.
