Sacramental Preparation

Baptism - The Rite of Baptism asks the parents: "Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?" that they are affirming is their acceptance of the responsibility to train their children in the practice of the faith. In the Baptismal rite, parents publicly ask for Baptism for their children. They bless their children with the Sign of the Cross. They renounce Satan and reaffirm their own faith. They bring their children to the waters of Baptism and accept a lighted candle, which symbolizes the Light of Christ. They receive a blessing as parents of their children. All of this presumes a Christian home where the parents are practicing their own faith. This will insure that all the Baptismal promises are fulfilled. For further information about immediate preparation for Baptism, See Sacraments
